Real Madrid have now officially raised their bid for Trent Alexander-Arnold to £15m, but Liverpool are still refusing to play ball.
That is according to Cadena SER, who say Real Madrid will not go any further than that and wait for the summer if Liverpool continue to say no.
They report that it is now an ‘open secret’ that Real Madrid’s main objective for the January transfer window is to sign Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.
The defender ‘raises sighs’ at the Spanish club, who see him as a massive opportunity given his contract expires in the summer. Liverpool’s attempts to renew him have been in vain and so Real Madrid have made an offer to try and get him this month.
That offer is valued at £15m but the Spanish giants have put up a ‘clear economic barrier’ above that price, refusing to offer more given he can be signed for free in the summer.
They don’t want the operation to ‘get out of control’ in financial terms and so, if Liverpool continue to resist, they will simply withdraw and wait until his contract comes to an end. That appears to be on the cards as Liverpool are not very willing to let him leave for €15m.
Madrid, though, believe that January may prove to be a long one, long enough for Liverpool to reconsider their proposal and ‘evaluate the bet with better eyes’.
