Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois believes they have one major advantage over Liverpool heading into the Champions League final.
Madrid secured their place in the final in Paris last night with a stunning last gasp victory over Manchester City after two thrilling semi-final clashes.
They’re set to face Liverpool, who booked their own passage to Paris courtesy of a hard-fought win over Villarreal on Tuesday night.
The game will see the two sides renew hostilities after their infamous clash in the 2018 final, in which Real Madrid came out 3-1 winners courtesy of a goalkeeping horror show from Loris Karius and Gareth Bale’s superb overhead kick.
Unlike that clash, though, Liverpool are the firm favourites for this game, having established themselves as one of the best sides in Europe under Jurgen Klopp.
They, however, are currently competing on multiple fronts, and Courtois believes that could prove to be an advantage for him and his teammates.
“This team, this club, is capable of anything. We kept believing until the end,” AS report him saying.
“We’ve knocked out some very big teams, who have spent a lot of money to try to win the Champions League.
“The path we’ve had… We know that at home, we can do everything, and we’re looking forward to getting back to a final.
“When you reach a final, everyone has an enormous desire. Because when you win four, you want five to be a legend. When Madrid go to finals, it’s to win them.
“We are happy, we have won the league, we have time to prepare for the final, an advantage we have over Liverpool who are playing in the league and have to give everything until the end.
“It’s the only advantage we can have. We can recover injured players and hope that we can win the final.”
