Jan Bednarek has been a regular figure in Southampton’s defence, a year after he arrived at St Mary’s Stadium from Lech Poznań in 2017.
The centre-back has managed to keep himself fit and has started in 89 league matches for the Saints since the start of the 2018/19 season.
His performances for Southampton over the years have not gone unnoticed, especially in Italy. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 26-year-old has ended up in the sights of Napoli for the upcoming transfer window.
The Serie A side are planning to revamp their defence after this season since they will not offer new deals to Faouzi Ghoulam and Kévin Malcuit, whose contracts expires on June 30th.
Axel Tuanzebe, who is on loan from Manchester United, will also not continue beyond this season.
Luciano Spalletti’s side are looking to bring in a new left-back and another player in the heart of the defence. This is where Southampton’s Poland international comes into the picture, for the latter position.
The Naples club, who have already qualified for next season’s Champions League, have long liked Fenerbahçe’s Kim Min-jae. However, it will not be easy for Napoli to take him away from the Turkish club.
Therefore, they have Ralph Hasenhüttl’s defender on their agenda. Gazzetta suggest Bednarek would be an alternative for the Serie A side, if they fail to land Kim Min-jae.
