There is a ‘real chance’ that Manchester United will move for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot if they decide to sack Erik ten Hag.

That’s according to 1908.nl, who cover the Feyenoord boss today and believe he is a shoo-in for the job at Manchester United if the manager’s position becomes available.

They’re full of praise for Slot, who led the Dutch side to the title last season and has them fourth in the table with 11 points from five games this year.

They say the ‘metamorphosis’ of the club under Slot has been unprecedented but that it is not getting the recognition it deserves. The same can be said of Slot, who is not the Golden Child of Dutch managers.

That honour goes to Ten Hag, but 1908 believe that cannot possibly be thanks to the performances he’s currently getting at Manchester United.

They question why he was praised for securing Champions League football last season when it was only done on the final day of the season. As far as they are concerned, that’s the least which should have been expected.

This summer he has spent more than €200m on players but has already lost three of five league games. The latest was the defeat to Brighton, where his team, assembled for €380m, was ‘humbled’ by a starting 11 that cost €18m.

The Dutch media are seemingly keen to ‘maintain the image of a successful trainer’ when it comes to Ten Hag but 1908 say the reality is that his results are not nearly as good as you would expect given the money he’s spent.

They say he has spent a lot but ‘created zero value’ and it is because of that there is talk Manchester United could now part ways with him.

If they do so, ‘there is a real chance’ that United would go for the ‘real rising star’ of the international managerial game.

Slot makes players better, can mould a team that plays attacking a recognisable football, achieves excellent results with modest resources and brings a smile to the faces of players, supporters and the financial director.

Those are ‘impressive achievements’ that ‘deserve more credit’, the same sort that Ten Hag often receives, meaning the Manchester United manager may need to watch his back.
