AZ forward Wout Weghorst has revealed he turned down the chance to join up with his compatriot Jaap Stam at Reading. The 23-year-old has been compared to Tottenham Hotspur’s recent signing Vincent Janssen, but the Dutchman believes he’s not ready for a move to England.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Weghorst was asked about why he turned down the chance to sign for Reading from Heracles in this window. Weghorst was offered a lucrative contract by the Championship side, but he revealed at this stage of his career he’s not thinking about money.
The forward rather remain in Holland at moment because he’s getting plenty of playing time, and would rather follow the path of Janssen
“I choose at this stage not to move for money. I want to make the most of my opportunities. I would rather follow the same path as Vincent Janssen,” said the AZ star.
Weghorst and Janssen have been compared in the Dutch media for their similarities after the former was signed to replace the Tottenham man at AZ. Both players have had to work hard to get where they are today because they weren’t seen as naturals, and the two forwards are now making names for themselves.
