Earlier on Tuesday, we covered a story from Corriere dello Sport’s national edition claiming that Napoli had Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos on their list of alternative options should they fail to land Victor Osimhen.
The newspaper reminded their readers that the Colombian had been offered to the Serie A club in the past via his agent, whose public outings have caught the attention of another Italian club.
The Rome edition of Corriere dello Sport (it has extra sections on AS Roma and Lazio compared to the national one) explain Simone Inzaghi’s side are also on the market for a new striker, fully aware that Ciro Immobile and Felipe Caicedo aren’t enough for an entire league campaign as well as next seasons’s Champions League, while Joaquín Correa isn’t a natural in the role.
Their first choice is Watford’s Luis Suárez, currently on loan at Real Zaragoza, but the €20m asking price and the Hornets’ desire to create a bidding war for their forward isn’t ideal for the Rome club.
That’s why they have ‘many alternatives’, among which happens to be the ‘similar profile’ of Alfredo Morelos, currently playing under the orders of Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
The Rangers star has been prolific enough to capture the attention of many foreign clubs, including Lazio, and the newspaper believes his valuation also stands at €20m.
However, with an extra year of experience over Suárez and some Europa League games under his belt, he could be worth the fee a bit more than his compatriot.
Furthermore, his preference to play in Serie A, as per his agent, makes him an ideal target, as he wouldn’t need to be convinced of the move.
He ticks all the boxes, but it all depends on how welcoming Rangers are if Lazio comes ticking on their door, as we’re sure Gerrard will be reluctant to see him leave.
