It’s now time for the Portuguese press to confirm Rangers are interested in signing the Vitória Setúbal defender Fábio Cardoso. After some rumours from British outlets, O Jogo has a story today saying the Ibrox club are preparing a bid for the 23-year-old.
They say that after watching the player many times this season, Rangers are ready to make a move by offering €2m for the player, in a move which looks to have the backing of manager Pedro Caixinha.
O Jogo also claims that transfer will only happen when Benfica give the green light to an Ibrox move. Cardoso left Benfica at the end of the last season, but his departure is a little confusing. That’s because at the time, some local outlets said he would be joining Vitória on a loan deal, although others claimed it as a permanent transfer.
Considering O Jogo’s info, and running this as a Benfica story, they probably reckon that he’s still a Benfica player of some sorts, and since he hasn’t been used by the club, the transfer shouldn’t be hard to achieve.
Just a little complicated for Caixinha and Rangers, but it wouldn’t be fun otherwise.
