Rangers defender Leon Balogun has revealed a contract extension with the club is just a matter of ‘formality’.
The centre back has played an important role for Rangers this season since arriving on a free transfer from Wigan in the summer.
With 19 appearances to his name in the Scottish Premiership and eight in the Europa League, he has been a regular under Steven Gerrard, establishing himself as a key player in their title success.
The 32-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer, though, and as yet, there have not been talks about an extension.
Rangers have an option to extend his deal by another year, however, and given the role Balogun has played this season, it seems extremely likely that they will take it up.
He certainly thinks so, revealing to SportBILD that the issue is very simple, even if he would be tempted by a return to the Bundesliga if it was offered.
“That’s just a formality, I don’t have to worry about that – I definitely want to stay,” he told the newspaper when asked about his contract situation.
“Sure! Germany is my home,” he added when asked if he’d be interested in moving to Germany.
“I’ve sacrificed many moments with my family to pursue my career. If there was an opportunity to be closer to them again, I would listen to it.”
