Rangers’ Sam Lammers could be set for an Ibrox exit this month, despite having only joined Philippe Clement’s side last summer.

On Tuesday, Algemeen Dagblad reported FC Utrecht have set their sights on the 26-year-old. Later that day, De Telegraaf stated the Dutch club are busy in their efforts to take him away from Rangers.

There seems to be progress in this operation as TuttoMercatoWeb state the Rangers player is ‘close’ to joining Utrecht on loan.

It’s claimed an agreement was reached between the parties in the ‘last few hours’, for the forward to move on a temporary deal until the end of this season. TMW further add there should be an official announcement on Wednesday.

Michael Beale was in charge at Ibrox when Rangers signed the former PSV Eindhoven man and he featured regularly under his orders.

Philippe Clement was appointed as Beale’s successor at Rangers and that didn’t work out well for the Dutchman in recent weeks. A loan move to Utrecht could help him feature regularly.

TMW end their report by stating: ‘Age is still on his side, but he will turn 27 on April 30th. It is perhaps the last train for his career.’

Lammers has managed two goals and two assists from 31 games this season for Philippe Clement’s side.
