At the beginning of the month we covered a report from Mundo Deportivo which claimed Southampton had tried to sign Paco Alcacer, with the assumption from the Catalan newspaper being the club remain interested ahead of the summer window.
Saturday’s edition of another Catalan newspaper, Sport, claims several Premier League clubs have contacted the Barcelona player.
Offers have already been made an it’s presented as a transfer which would suit everyone involved, given Barcelona are looking to raise funds for their own business.
No clubs are named, but given Southampton were the only side to get a mention earlier this month, the link is natural to make. Any move from the Saints would certainly depend on them achieving Premier League survival, something which is far from being assured.
Sport sound confident on behalf of Barcelona over the fee, with it being claimed there’s ‘no doubt’ Barcelona would be able to get back all of the €30m they spent on the striker.
That may be optimistic, and if Southampton survive and return for the player, then they’d surely go in quite a bit lower, at least to start with.
