The front page of Friday’s edition of O Jogo states ‘Jimenez brings another €38m’ and also ‘Striker convinces – Wolves to trigger purchase option’.
To push thing home further, their headline inside reads ‘Wolves want to keep Jimenez’.
The Portuguese newspaper say the Mexican is expected to stay at the English club ‘for a long time’, and they even claim he’s causing a ‘sensation’ at Wolves, which is pushing things a bit.
Wolves’ ‘leaders’ are ‘already convinced to advance’, and want to keep the player. Only a downturn in his performances would change matters.
O Jogo have gone to the extent of contacting the footballer’s father, who told them: “He’s been very good in the English league. He’s in the team and we hope that things continue to run in this way and he scores goals. From my point of view, the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and for him it was a good choice. It was the relaunch of his career and he hopes to consolidate at Wolverhampton.”
Jimenez Sr believes Nuno Espirito Santo has ‘total confidence’ in the striker, and that’s obviously helped him after a difficult period at Benfica.
Despite all the headline claims from O Jogo, it could be based on excitement after Jimenez scored against Chelsea, added to the words from the player’s father.
Whilst Wolves keeping the 27 year old beyond his loan seems quite possible, they’d surely look for a discount on the €38m/£34m clause option. It seems a little overpriced, and there’s no harm in trying to push Benfica down.
