Reports from the English media this week have been claiming that Sheffield Wednesday are interested in the return of Frederico Venâncio.
The defender spent the 2017-18 season featuring for the Owls on a loan deal from Vitória Setúbal, and is now said to be a target again.
The Portuguese press has been covering these rumours in the past 24 hours, and although they don’t seem to know a lot about the interest, they bring some information on the bigger picture.
An important piece of information is that Venâncio no longer belongs to Vitória Setúbal. Right after his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, he moved to Vitória Guimarães. So that’s a new club the Championship side would have to negotiate with.
Newspaper O Jogo writes today that Venâncio is one of the best paid players in Vitória Guimarães’ squad, and since he isn’t a guaranteed spot in the team, he’s free to look for a new club.
Vitória Guimarães are only interested in letting him go in case of a permanent move, and that’s bad news for clubs such as Farense, who’d like to sign him on a loan deal.
Newspaper Record talks a little about it as well. They say Farense are willing to close a deal for his signing soon, and there should be news in the coming hours. However, the offer from Sheffield Wednesday is ‘financially’ more interesting.
So it all sounds like a choice for the player, going back to the Owls or staying comfortable in his home country.
