Willy Boly was slightly hesitant over joining Wolves on loan in the summer transfer window.
Porto were pushing the player out and the defender wanted to wait for other options before committing to Wolves, probably a little reluctant to join a second division side.
With Porto pushing and other options not coming forward, Boly was persuaded to sign for Wolves by manager Nuno Espirito Santo, the Portuguese coach given much credit at the time in Portugal for talking the player into a move.
Boly will surely be glad he listened to his current boss, and his stay at Wolves has been going well. It’s the subject of a big feature from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo on Boxing Day, who say Porto will now expect to hit the ‘jackpot’ with a permanent transfer.
Porto paid €6.5m for the defender and had been worried that was an investment which would result in a loss.
O Jogo refer to English claims a €12m permanent transfer could be on the cards, and they don’t doubt Wolves could pay such a fee.
However, the newspaper add ‘Even if he does not earn those 12 million euros, he can at least beat what he cost’, which gives the impression much less will be needed.
