The Telegraph’s story from Tuesday saying Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Ricardo Pereira, who impressed last season in Nice, had a quick impact in Portugal, with most of the local outlets covering it.
The claim had originally started in Portugal, with Sabado, a week ago, and was covered several times by the Portuguese media, likely prompting The Telegraph, but any excuse to continue the story will be taken.
The right-back actually belongs to Porto, and as the club need to make some sales to be fine with the financial fair play this summer, it’s very interesting for them to see a loaned player linked to big clubs.
Correio da Manhã followed The Telegraph’s lead and took a few more updates on the situation. In today’s edition, they confirm that both Tottenham and PSG have contacted the Portuguese club to become aware of the conditions of a sale, and the answer was that he’s only leaving for the €25m release clause.
That works out to be £22m, and is a reasonable price for the 23 year old.
Although the original story also put Bundesliga sides Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the race, Correio da Manhã claims that Porto are still to be receive any kind of contact from these clubs.
Sabado’s original claims, and it’s worth taking note of those given they had the exclusive, stated Tottenham are prepared to pay the €25m, and Pereira is Mauricio Pochettino’s Plan A.
