Fotomac have reported Fenerbahce are very close to signing Gael Clichy, but the Turkish club are still concerned Liverpool could hijack the deal.

Clichy was released by the Manchester City at the end of last season, and there has been plenty of interest for the left back, including from Fenerbahçe’s domestic rivals Galatasaray and Medipol Basaksehir. Liverpool have also been linked with the Frenchman as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his squad this summer.

Fotomac say Fenerbahçe want Clichy to lower his signing on fee, and the Turkish club have club already agreed on personal terms with the former Manchester City player. It’s been reported Clichy looks set to sign a three-year contract, and if he signs this summer the Turkish club will release Celtic target Hasan Ali Kaldirim.

However, with Liverpool lurking in the background, Fenerbahçe will have to act quickly, given there’s also interest from other Turkish clubs.

At the end of May, the Liverpool Echo were told Clichy isn’t a target for Liverpool, but there’s still worry in Turkey. Either Klopp is keeping his interest from the club’s local media, or someone is pushing the link in Turkey, perhaps to pressure Fenerbahçe.
