For a very long while, Manchester United were trying to convince Hakan Calhanoglu to ditch Milan and join them at Old Trafford.
The Turkey international is currently in the last few months of his contract at San Siro, and with renewal talks yet to come to an agreement, other clubs are free to approach him with their own offers.
Manchester United reportedly did that, or were planning on doing so, but it was said a couple of times that the attacking midfielder prioritised a stay if he could, but his wages demands were a bit high for the player.
With Milan now out of the Europa League, ironically knocked out by the Old Trafford club, Calciomercato.it look at what the future holds for Calhanoglu, and give the latest information on the matter.
They state ‘the player’s will is clear’, and that’s to stay in Milan, but ‘a meeting point between supply and demand is needed’.
The Serie A side ‘continue to offer €3.5m/year’, which is only €300k more than what he currently earns, whereas the midfielder, who has been key to Stefano Pioli’s plans so far this season, wants around €4.5m.
The website also remind their readers that they previously reported the player ‘has received offers from Napoli, another Serie A club and also from Manchester United’.
They are seen as ‘temptations’ for the moment, but they ‘haven’t made the number 10 change his mind’.
To us, it seems very much like an attempt to rekindle a rumour that died a very satisfying death a while back, but unless something drastically goes wrong, Calhanoglu should still be in Milan next year.
