On January 20th, we carried a report from Bild explaining that Newcastle United are closing in on Schalke’s Nabil Bentaleb and the midfielder arrived in England to undergo a medical.
The German newspaper, who also stated the former Tottenham Hotspur man is a ‘Problem Professional’, backed the 25-year-old to join the Tyneside club on loan with a purchase option.
Fussball Transfers (part of the Foot Mercato group) have tweeted Bentaleb has cleared his medical and they provide more information on their website.
Fussball Transfers claim the Algeria international’s move to St James’ Park will be completed in the ‘next few hours’.
According to the report, ‘all formalities should be completed in the morning’ after all parties have reached an agreement for the transfer. Only a signature is missing for the deal to be made official.
Fussball Transfers back Bild’s claim saying Bentaleb will join Steve Bruce’s side on loan with a purchase option, which is set at €10m.
Crystal Palace and Werder Bremen came forward as potential buyers, but the player is now set to join Magpies in the winter market.
