Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy’s €17m release clause means he is a ‘cheap’ option for Newcastle United to explore in the January transfer window.

That’s according to SWR, who cover the player today and the possibility of him moving in the winter window.

Guirassy has been the breakout star of the Bundesliga this season, with a tally of 15 goals in nine games so far only bettered by Harry Kane’s record of 17 goals.

It’s a tally that very much hasn’t gone unnoticed and he’s been heavily linked with a move away in January, with several sides thought to be keeping an eye on him.

Newcastle are one of the sides credited with an interest as they look to bolster their squad in January to help cover for a series of injuries, particularly to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

SWR explain that the striker would be considered a ‘cheap’ option for the Magpies as he’s available for €17m, which is low given he is rated at €40m by the likes of Transfermarkt.

They say that the player and his advisors ‘will certainly be speculating’ ahead of the next window and the potential money they could make from a transfer as well. However, ‘corresponding inquiries’ to Newcastle United have ‘come to nothing’.

Their interest is backed up by Sky Germany, who say the Magpies have ‘entered the race’ for the striker alongside AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.

They say that while Guirassy is not forcing a transfer in January, that cannot be ruled out because of his release clause.

The courtship is very much open for him but, according to their information, no team ‘has yet presented itself’ for a transfer.

There is plenty of time for that to change, of course, and the belief is that Newcastle are very much in the mix for him either way.
