HLN adds Jürgen Klopp’s side were looking at player to be backup for their ‘magnificent’ front three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané.

Jonathan David, who left Gent for Lille, was extensively scouted by the English champions, but their final shortlist included Watford’s Ismaïla Sarr and Diogo Jota. Liverpool ended up taking the latter from Wolverhampton Wanderers and he’s been an instant hit for them.

As per the report, Doku’s profile still ‘appeals’ Liverpool and his name is on the ‘long list of talents’ their recruitment team will continue to follow. HLN adds their scouting department and data analysts ‘keep a close eye on everything’.
