On Sunday, it was stated that Juventus were in a sprint to get a deal for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips over the line.

An agreement with the defensive midfielder was said to be close, and now we have claims from journalist Marco Conterio, speaking to Raisport, relayed by TuttoJuve, that the England international has given the green light.

There had previously been doubts in Turin that Manchester City’s Phillips was the right man to bolster the midfield at Juventus due to his lack of game time and need to adapt to Serie A football, but that appears to have gone out the window for the time being.

Conterio started off by saying the Italians have been ‘negotiating in recent weeks’ to get the midfielder: “There is the player’s OK for the transfer. It would be a loan for six months.”

He then added that Juventus and Manchester City are currently trying to work out the ‘percentage of salary to be paid’ by the Serie A side, who simply cannot take on all of his wages.

For Phillips, this is an ideal opportunity to play regularly, or at least more than he is at the Etihad, as he aims to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for next year’s Euros.
