Over the past few days we’ve been covering the optimistic situation for Celtic when it comes to Paulo Bernardo, and how it looked increasingly likely they’d be able to get a good deal for the 22-year-old.
Benfica loaned the midfielder to the Scottish Premiership club last season and Brendan Rodgers was pleased with what he contributed. Celtic decided to keep Bernardo, but didn’t want to use the €7m option they’d previously agreed.
The Lisbon side were in a tricky situation because there wasn’t exactly a rush of clubs looking to knock the club’s down down for the youngster, so that helped Celtic in terms of bargaining.
A Bola now report Bernardo is ‘on his way’ to Celtic, with a move to the Glasgow club described as ‘almost certain’.
There’s still a few details to be sorted out, on a deal which will cost less than that €7m, and it’s stated Benfica want to retain at least 50% of the profit from a future sale.
