Earlier this week, we covered an article in Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that Atalanta were keen on extending Mario Pasalic’s stay from Chelsea, a move the midfielder was also interested in, wanting some stability in his life after spending the last six years going from club to club on loan.
The idea was to extend his current temporary stay by a year, even if the Croatian international would probably prefer something longer, which could still happen.
According to the same newspaper on Thursday, talks are currently ongoing between Atalanta’s president, Antonio Percassi, the club’s technical director, Giovanni Sartori and Chelsea’s Marina Granovskaia, with the first meeting about a potential extension/permanent transfer taking place in April.
Gazzetta state Pasalic ‘wants to remain’ even if he wasn’t a major protagonist in Gian Pierio Gasperini’s plans, starting just 45% of league games this season.
It seems clear the 24-year-old has enjoyed himself in Italy over the 2018-19 campaign, returning to a country and a league he already knew from a previous loan to Serie A with Milan back in 2016.
Pasalic was mostly used as a rotational option this season, making 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and picking up six assists.
