Here’s a rumour which appeared and vanished very fast.

It was first reported by the Brazilian media that Manchester United had made a bid of €50m for David Neres from Ajax. Then other claims said the bid was actually €60m. And shortly after that, the player renewed his contract with the Dutch side.

It all seemed like an obvious move from agents who are seeking a contract renewal and feed the press with an interest from the Red Devils, like we’ve seen so many times.

But now there’s some insistence that the Manchester United offer was real, and it was actually turned down by David Neres.

Jorge Nicola, the same journalist who first reported the bid, now claims the player has ‘rejected’ Manchester United to become Ajax’s best paid athlete in the Dutch squad.

It’s claimed Ajax believe he can be worth much more than the €50m offered by the Old Trafford side, and that’s why the bid wasn’t accepted. To sell him now, they wanted at least €70m. Now they have a big project for his future.
