With just under two weeks left in the January transfer window, Watford are continuing their recruitment process.
Having already signed Samir on loan from Udinese, Yaser Asprilla from Envigado, Hassana Kamara from OGC Nice, Edo Kayembe from KAS Eupen and Maduka Okoye from Sparta Rotterdam, the Hornets should soon be able to boast another name on that list in the very near future.
That will be Samuel Kalu from Girondins de Bordeaux, whom Sud-Ouest are reporting has already travelled to England ‘to undergo the medical and sign a four and a half year contract’.
This would represent the first real movement from the Ligue 1 side this window, with the French club receiving €3m, with bonuses capable of increasing the total fee to €4m.
The Nigeria international has been a source of frustration over the years for Bordeaux fans, going through purples patches and droughts alike, totalling 10 goals and eight assists from 86 appearances in the three and a half years he has been at the club following a £7.65m transfer from KAA Gent in August 2018.
There will be hope he can provide much needed attacking impetus at Watford, as Claudio Ranieri’s men attempt to avoid dropping into the relegation zone, currently sitting 17th in the Premier League, one point above Norwich but with two games in hand.
