West Bromwich Albion’s Kamil Grosicki was set to join Nottingham Forest in the last window, but the deal was not made official due to issues with paperwork not submitted in time.
According to the EFL, his move to City Ground has not gone through and the winger is still not aware as to ‘what the future holds for him’.
Meczyki.pl explains the situation around the 32-year-old is ‘so stalemate’ that his future will ‘ultimately be decided by the Arbitration Commission’ and a decision is expected on Thursday.
For now, the former Hull City man is still with the Baggies and the website gives a background on what happened in the final days and weeks of the transfer window.
Grosicki was part of the Poland squad for October’s international break and had learned about the interest from Chris Hughton’s side.
On the domestic deadline day, the player was informed by West Brom he has no place in their squad and can look for a new club. This ‘surprised’ the wideman and Meczyki.pl adds the Premier League side took this decision without the knowledge of their manager.
Following this, Grosicki’s agent Jerzy Kopiec resumed contacts with Nottingham and they quickly reached an agreement. His client agreed a deal with the Championship side because he wanted to feature regularly this season.
It was set to be a loan deal and the transfer was to be made permanent if Hughton’s side achieved promotion to the top flight. The two clubs couldn’t find an agreement minutes before the window closed and when they finally agreed, it was ‘already very late’.
The documents were submitted 21 seconds after the window was closed. The lawyers are arguing that 17:00:21 is still 17:00 and ‘such a slight delay cannot determine the correctness’ of the transfer. The report adds ‘regulations are not 100% clear on this matter’. Due to conflict, the case was referred to the Arbitration Commission.
“Last week, the Pole spoke with Slaven Bilic, who said that in the event of a failure to transfer to the Championship, the club would include him on the list at his request. Today he reassured him of his opinion on the matter,” Kopiec said.
“Kamil is suspended through no fault of his own. We did everything right. It is the clubs and the league that must finally resolve this matter. Kamil has a lot of support from the coaches of both teams. I’m sure he will play in the coming weeks. We are waiting for the final decision.”
Nottingham Forest are hopeful the player will be able to represent them. Meczyki.pl explains ‘the club [most likely Forest] committed large funds and lawyers to settle the dispute in its favor’.
The website end their report by stating, ‘It is unlikely that the final verdict will be made on Thursday, two weeks after Deadline Day!’
