Staying at Norwich City is ‘no longer an option’ for defender Ozan Kabak this summer as Schalke try to work out what to do with him.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say ‘it is not possible’ that the defender will play for the German club next season.
He’s still tied to them until 2024 but has spent this season on loan at Norwich after a similar spell with Liverpool last season.
Schalke had ‘expected’ a €13m income from the player this summer as that was the amount specified in the purchase obligation included in the loan to Norwich.
That was linked to the Canaries staying in the Premier League and Kabak playing 20 games, both of which are unlikely to be met, meaning that, as a result, ‘staying at Norwich is no longer an option’.
Thus it remains to be seen where Kabak will end up next, with his future ‘still in the stars’ and FT stating there are no ‘concrete enquiries’ for him at this point.
BILD say similar, stating that Schalke had hoped to sell Kabak for a ‘mega profit’ as he was undoubtedly their ‘hottest stock’ at one point.
He even had a €45m release clause from 2021, but his performances have dwindled, and the hopes of Norwich doing a permanent deal ‘have been dashed twice’, first by Norwich being bottom of the table and second by Kabak’s recent season-ending injury.
Now Schalke would like a €10m deal, but sports director Rouven Schröder would sell him for ‘a high single-digit million sum’ just to get rid.
He’d even sanction a third loan deal in the hope it goes better than his spell with Norwich has this season.
