At the beginning of this week, Giovani Lo Celso to Tottenham looked dead.

Spurs had struggled to find an agreement with Real Betis and had moved on to try and sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting. That route met similar difficulties, with the Lisbon club demanding €70m for their goalscoring midfielder.

A final Tottenham offer was presented to Sporting on Wednesday morning by agent Miguel Pinho, but it didn’t have the desire impact.

Then quickly came claims from Spain of Lo Celso to Spurs being back on, and that’s progressed throughout the day to an agreed deal.

Onda Cero report there’s ‘total agreement’ on the transfer, and the Argentine will sign a five year contract with Tottenham worth €4m a season, a figure which is likely to be after tax.

Betis will receive ‘about’ €60m for their player, and only the schedule of payment needs to be finalised before the deal can be signed off by both clubs.
