The arrival of Sergio Reguilón at Manchester United has opened up a deal for Álvaro Fernández to go on loan to Granada.

That’s according to journalist Álvaro de Grado, who says the defender will be joining the Spanish side on loan without an option to buy.

Fernández has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer after returning from a loan spell at Preston North End.

He is keen to continue being a regular to aid his development but is unlikely to get that at Old Trafford given they have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in their squad.

A temporary return to Spain and specifically Granada has been on the cards for weeks but was put on hold by Manchester United as injuries to Malacia and Shaw left them short at left-back.

It was reported they wouldn’t sanction a departure for Fernández until they had found a new player for the position, which has now happened.

Álvaro de Grado reports that now Manchester United have wrapped up a deal for Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón it means they will sanction Fernández’s departure.

According to his information, the player is now set to move to Granada on loan, although it won’t include an option to buy, meaning he should be back at Old Trafford next summer.
