Bryan Gil is a great example of how a player’s standing can change very quickly.

When the winger moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Valencia on loan, the hype around him grew quickly and to a level that was probably unreasonable. He quickly got fans of the Spanish club on their feet, with some great flashes making them excited for the remainder of the season.

This carried on for a while, with Valencia’s crowd chanting for the 21-year-old to stay, and the club’s local media falling head over heels in love with the attacker.

Things have changed recently, and Gil has started on the bench for the club’s past three matches.

Manager José Bordalás has changed the system, so Valencia have three midfielders and no space for a winger like Gil.

Plaza Deportiva are one of several local media outlets covering the fall from grace, and they say he’s ‘lost prominence’. Since arriving at Valencia, the Tottenham owned player has only contributed a single assist and that saw questions being asked even before he was dropped from the team.

Whereas as not so long ago the word around the Spanish club was about how they could afford to keep Gil, now it’s about whether they will even push for him, with it stated his future is now the subject of more doubt.
