Kenedy has explained why he was keen to return to Newcastle United in the summer window, having spent time with Rafael Benitez’s club last season.
Returning to Chelsea at the end of the loan spell, Kenedy was reportedly of interest to other clubs as well, but the Magpies always stood out as the likeliest option for him.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, Kenedy was asked about returning to St James’ Park: “I was always very keen to come back. The first loan spell worked out very well for Newcastle and myself, so when I heard they were interested in bringing me back this season, I was delighted. I didn’t play too much for Chelsea, so getting more minutes here can only be good for my career.”
Kenedy joined Chelsea in 2015 when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club, but he failed to get games. In total he’s played just 15 Premier League matches for the Blues, and also spent a loan period with Watford.
Last year the South American was sent home from Chelsea’s preseason tour of China after comments made on social media, which didn’t help his cause at Stamford Bridge.
However, his loan move to Newcastle United in January helped kickstart the left back’s career and he did enough to convince Benitez to bring him back for a second spell.
The 22 year old has been an ever present in the Premier League this season for the club, apart from the game against his parent side Chelsea.
With the opportunity to get more games for Newcastle United, it’s no surprise he was up for the return.
