Watford’s new signing Pontus Dahlberg has told the Swedish press he didn’t sign for the Premier League club for money.
The 18 year old joined Watford in the last window for an undisclosed fee, but it’s been suggested it was around 35m Krona (about £3.1m), a record for a Swedish goalkeeper.
Fotboll Direkt have reported on comments made by Dahlberg when he was asked the reasons for signing for Watford: “I have never moved for the money, then I could have chosen something else. That’s something I don’t care about. It’s what’s best for my development and Watford have a plan for me. That’s what’s important.”
Fotboll Direkt report Dahlberg has been given a huge contract, by Swedish standards, at Watford, and the youngster is likely to be earning around £90k a month.
Napoli were also in the race for the young Swede, but the English side convinced him to move to Vicarage Road in the closing stages of the window.
However, Watford fans will not be seeing Dahlebeg soon as the Sweden U21 international has been loaned back to IFK Goteborg until the end of the season.
