Former Netherlands captain Frank de Boer has told the Russian media Liverpool would be a good destination for Spartak Moscow attacker Quincy Promes.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, and an agent who with good links in Russia recently said it could be an ideal move.

Speaking to Sport Express, De Boer was asked bout the future of Promes, and whether he could play in the Premier League: “For me if Liverpool really wants to buy Promes, then I think they’ll looking for a cover in the wing positions. He might have to wait his chance.

“But Liverpool is still a very interesting option, many players couldn’t reject clubs like Liverpool.”

Promes looked to be on the verge of joining Southampton last month, but the Premier League side weren’t prepared to meet his €30m buyout clause.

Last week a prominent agent in Russia was quizzed on the failed move to England, and suggested Liverpool would be a better move for Promes because they compete for silverware, and are in Europe: “Maybe, yes. He must go to a club that fights for titles or the European cup.”

Jurgen Klopp has shown an interest in Promes in the past, but with the options the Liverpool boss has in the wide attacking areas this isn’t a priority.
