On December 22nd, West Ham United confirmed they’ve agreed a deal to sign Frederik Alves from Danish side Silkeborg IF. The defender has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Hammers.
West Ham’s interest in the 21-year-old was first reported by Denmark’s BT at the start of last month.
It was then followed by confirmation from Silkeborg. The Danish side confirmed to have reached an agreement for the centre-back’s sale and said the deal would be completed once the transfer window reopens in January.
Silkeborg, however, didn’t reveal where Alves would end up in the winter market and this led to reports linking him to Torino.
Now that the Denmark U21 international has sealed a switch to the London club, Alves has given an interview to Silkeborg’s official website, detailing when he first became aware of interest from David Moyes’ side.
“On the first day of the collection [with Denmark U21s], which was also the last day of the transfer window, my agent calls me. Then he says, ‘You must not say anything to anyone’.
“I was actually allowed to say it to my near ones, but I did not know that, so I kept it really close. He told me that West Ham had come and started negotiating with Silkeborg. Then I was just completely overwhelmed. Is that really true? And it was,” he said.
Alves also revealed it was his childhood dream to play in the Premier League, and a move to West Ham United will see him fulfil it.
