Birger Verstraete of Gent is attracting interest from clubs the Premier League and across Europe.
Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad claims the 25-year-old is on Watford’s radar, who want to go to great lengths to recruit him in the summer transfer window.
The midfielder’s current deal runs out in 2020 and his employer has been trying to persuade him to sign an extension for a while.
Gent will see their players return for training next week and the report claims there’s a possibility the player will no longer be part of the Jupiler Pro League side.
Apart from the Hornets, there are clubs from the Bundesliga and even in the Middle East interested in signing him, but the latter does not please Verstraete.
Another Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws also talks about the English club’s interest in the defensive midfielder.
HLN say Verstraete is ‘on his way’ to Watford, and they believe a transfer will be done for a ‘substantial’ fee.
The negotiations for his transfer are in ‘full swing’ and despite interest from elsewhere, the Hornets are thought to be close.
There’s no claim of the actual transfer fee.
