Last week, journalist Rubén Uría reported Newcastle United are willing to make an offer worth €30m for Real Sociedad’s Robin Le Normand.

He also stated the Tyneside club have joined Atlético Madrid and Napoli in the chase for the 27-year-old.

Newcastle are taking steps steps to try and sign the centre-back in the summer, as per Monday’s Mundo Deportivo.

The report focuses on Los Rojiblancos’ need to sign at least one new centre-back for next season. Their sporting director, Andrea Berta, has the Real Sociedad player and Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera at the top of his list.

It’s claimed the French-born Spain international looks very favourably on Atlético’s interest and is well aware that they want him in the next window.

At the same time, Le Normand is said to be handling other offers, such as the one from Newcastle. Mundo, however, haven’t provided any details of the proposal tabled by the Magpies.

With the defender favouring a move to the Madrid club, Eddie Howe’s side have to find a way to convince him to join them.

Le Normand has a €60m release clause in his deal that lasts until 2026, and Mundo state Diego Simeone’s side have no intention to pay this price for him.

Newcastle United probably feel the same way, so negotiations could be tough.
