Willian José has apologised to Real Sociedad after seeing a potential January exit from the club fail to materialise.
The striker was heavily linked with a move away from the club in the winter window, with Tottenham making a bid for his services.
Spurs’ bid caused the player to go on something of a strike at the Spanish club as he looked to force the move to the Premier League.
The player hasn’t featured in La Real’s last couple of games, a situation that not only disappointed the club’s fans but caused severe anger throughout the management.
However, the move to Tottenham never materialised, with José Mourinho’s side refusing to match Real Sociedad’s €30m asking price for the striker.
That’s left José looking to pick up the pieces of a broken relationship at the Spanish club, with him having even fallen out with local journalists over their reporting of the Tottenham interest.
“The truth is that I apologise to the fans for everything that has happened in recent days,” he told Marca.
“I saw that it was a very good opportunity for me to get out of here and play Champions League, with a Premier League team.
“Many things have happened, and all I have to do is apologise to the fans, the teammates and the coach, who have always trusted me.
“I said I wasn’t going to the game against Espanyol. I don’t know if it was the best decision, but it was what I thought at the time.
“I had a lot of information in my head, and I told the president that I didn’t have it to go to the game. It has passed, and I apologise. I will work every day to have people’s trust again.
“Not only the fans, but I am also hurt. I will continue working to score goals and give joy to the fans so that they shout my name again in Anoeta. It will be an immense happiness.”
