Unless something unforeseen happens, Jerry Mbakogu will join Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to his current club Carpi.
The Serie B club’s general manager Matteo Scali was quoted this weekend as saying: “There’s a gentleman agreement with Leeds for June.”
It was part of a Gazzetta dello Sport article on Carpi’s game this weekend, and it was hoped Mbakogu would be involved. The 25 year old is an important part of the club’s team, and his influence by all accounts goes beyond his 8 goals and three assists so far this season.
That said, Mbakogu just happened to have his best game of the season for Carpi when Leeds United went watching, with Gazzetta dello Sport saying he was the ‘driver of success’ for his team.
Even the Italian newspaper said Leeds United ‘chose the right day’ to scout the striker.
Unfortunately he hasn’t been able to celebrate his impending Leeds United move. Gazzetta report he was ‘knocked out by a virus’ on Friday and therefore couldn’y help Carpi against Cremonense, a match they drew 1-1.
