On Monday, Catalan newspaper Sport reported Unai Emery and Monchi are both keen on signing Ronald Araújo for Aston Villa in the summer window.
It was also said the Aston Villa manager and director have informed Barcelona of their desire to present a ‘formal offer’ for the defender, as long as they sell Diego Carlos.
Aston Villa are of the belief the 25-year-old will be made available in the market, and will be ready to pounce.
AS say the Aston Villa target is among the five Barca players who have uncertain futures, and they are waiting to see whether or not Xavi Hernández will be in charge beyond this season.
Araújo’s current deal lasts until 2026 and the Catalan club have been trying to renew his deal. At the same time, Barca could sell him if they were to receive a tempting offer.
In that case, AS explain that ‘the player would decide’ on whether to accept the proposal or continue at the Camp Nou.
Aston Villa, led by Emery and Monchi, have conveyed their desire to table an offer. They now have to convince Araújo to join them, which is likely going to be key.
The Premier League side must also make sure that they’re not being used to help the South American get an improved deal at Barcelona.
