This week, we covered former Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez saying he’d play for them for free.
The 34-year-old, who currently features for Los Angeles Galaxy, said he’d join the Red Devils for no money just to help the club he loves so much.
Even though Chicharito insisted he said that with no disrespect meant to his current club, that didn’t go down very well in North America.
One of those criticising his quotes is ESPN journalist David Faitelson.
The pundit came up on Twitter claiming the striker couldn’t play for Manchester United these days even if he ‘paid them’. He also made a suggestion.
“Why don’t you make the same offer for Chivas? Wasn’t Jorge Vergara the one who took you to England?”
Chicharito left Chivas for Manchester United in the summer of 2010 in a €7.5m deal. In his years at Old Trafford, he made 157 appearances, scoring 59 goals and making 20 assists.
The Mexican star first left on a loan to Real Madrid in 2014, and then ended up sealing his permanent exit to Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
He also played for West Ham United and Sevilla before joining Los Angeles Galaxy, where he’s currently a captain.
