Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf report Davinson Sanchez needs to be careful tonight if he gets on the pitch for Ajax, and he’ll know that after learning what happened to fellow Colombian Yerry Mina.
The Palmeiras defender was all lined up for a transfer to Barcelona, and De Telegraaf point out that in what was supposed to be his goodbye match, in the Copa Libertadores around a week ago, he broke a bone.
Davinson Sanchez is on the verge of a move to Tottenham, Ajax face Rosenburg tonight, it’s a scenario the defender is probably worried about. The chance to say goodbye to Ajax fans, even if some are a little angry, is not one Sanchez wants to take whilst being carried off on a stretcher.
Back to the business, and De Telegraaf make it clear there could be developments on the a transfer to Tottenham in the ‘coming hours’. That’s the good news, the bad news is those developments could just as easily be a pause in negotiations as a successful outcome.
Ajax have decided to play hardball, inspired by a summer of a crazy spending on the European transfer scene, but the Dutch giants have unfortunately got the wrong negotiating partner.
Tottenham are offering just under €40m, according to the claims today and previously.
De Telegraaf today say Ajax ‘demand’ €50m, and that was the same yesterday.
Unfortunately for Ajax’s attempts at a strong bargaining hand, previously it had been reported the Dutch club were happy with something over €40m.
That also came from De Telegraaf, and other well connected sources in the Netherlands, and it makes Ajax’s negotaiting stance with Tottenham look pretty obvious: They want over €40m, but with Tottenham not wanting to go over €40m, Ajax now demand €50m, hoping they can meet somewhere in the middle.
At least today there’s no condescension towards Tottenham, owned by currency billionaire Joe Lewis, about the falling strength of sterling.
There’s also no mention of Real Madrid’s supposed bid, or of Chelsea’s ‘concrete’ interest. On that note, Davinson Sanchez to Real Madrid certainly isn’t something being taken seriously, or largely taken at all, in the Spanish media.
