Clinton N’Jie moved to Marseille from Tottenham last year on a loan, and throughout that loan there were various reports in France that a permanent deal would be automatic at the end of it.
Soon, clauses from Tottenham’s end were talked about, and it was reported that Spurs could get N’Jie back if needed, the whole situation was a little confusing.
N’Jie starting preseason with Marseille was a strong signal he’s now owned by the French club, but there’s been no announcement from either club to confirm that.
This week Sport Witness have been assured N’Jie is still a Tottenham player and that will remain the case until there’s an announcement otherwise.
Yet, speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, the player himself sounds very much like he believes it’s already done, and his time at Tottenham is over.
Asked how his time with Tottenham ended, N’Jie told L’Equipe: “I haven’t had any discussions with them. I was just in London get a few things and give the keys to my apartment over.”
Perhaps it’s a paperwork issue or Tottenham are holding back on making things official at their end, which in turn stops Marseille from doing the same.
Or maybe N’Jie’s announcement is being held back until August 31st, to make sure Tottenham have a traditional deadline day deal.
