David Luiz returned to Chelsea this summer from Paris-Saint Germain, but reports at the time claimed the Premier League club were also keen on signing another defender from the Ligue 1 club.
Young French defender Presnel Kimpembe has made his way to Unai Emery’s starting XI after Luiz’s departure, and French newspaper L’Equipe said the 21-year-old was wanted by Chelsea.
According to a latest report on L’Equipe, Kimpembe has been negotiating a new contract at Paris-Saint Germain, but there has been little real progress.
Paris-Saint Germain’s sporting director Patrick Kluivert has held several meetings with the Chelsea target, but has been unsuccessful in convincing him.
L’Equipe say Kimpembe has asked to meet Paris-Saint Germain’s president, Nasser al-Khelaïfi, for further discussions.
The 21-year-old has another couple of years left on his contract, and the Ligue 1 club would be hoping to renew his contract soon.
Chelsea’s interest is once again mentioned by the French newspaper and this may be one worth keeping an eye on.
