As you’re probably fully aware by now if you’ve been following our coverage of the situation around Europe, Leander Dendoncker is in the middle of an apparent transfer tug of war between Anderlecht and interested clubs.
We say ‘apparent’ because as far as we’re aware, despite claims of Everton and Manchester United interest, no one has actually stepped forward to try and sign the defensive midfielder.
Most of it has been paper talk, and, while Dendoncker wants to leave Anderlecht, it really shouldn’t be affecting the player himself, yet it has.
Speaking to DH after Anderlecht’s 3-2 defeat to Sint-Truiden, he said: “Is it getting to me? Maybe. I’m not exactly sure where I will play, and maybe it’s creeping inside my head”.
Anderlecht have made it clear they would struggle to say no if an offer of around €20m from a club like Everton or Manchester United were to land on their desk, even if their original intention was to keep Dendoncker for an extra year.
The Toffees have recruited heavily all summer, and while the Red Devils have already signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, we’re confident their fans wouldn’t be against another midfield recruit seeing as that area was grossly overlooked for so many years by Sir Alex Ferguson.
