Brighton and Hove Albion star Pervis Estupiñán has backed former teammate Moisés Caicedo to ‘take on the world’ and keep developing into a top star at Chelsea.

The defender has been speaking to ESPN Ecuador regarding his former teammate as the pair link up once again during this international break.

Caicedo is now officially the most expensive player ever in the history of the Premier League after securing a €116m move to Chelsea midway through last month.

It brought an end to nearly a year’s worth of speculation regarding the midfielder, who had established himself as one of the rising stars of European football after returning to Brighton from a loan spell at Beerschot in January 2022.

Since then, it’s been a rapid rise to the top for him, with a series of impressive performances at Brighton under Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi earning him big admirers across the continent.

It was eventually Chelsea who won the race for his signature, paying a huge fee to ensure they beat competition from Liverpool for the Ecuadorian.

It’s been something of a rocky start to life at Stamford Bridge for the midfielder, but Estupiñán is not concerned and believes that his former teammate will be starring before too long.

“I’ve known him for a long time, because he’s been my teammate since the national team,” he said.

“A nice relationship was created based on football. He was very attached to me, because of the experience I have of having been through some teams. I tried to give him the best advice.

“We talked about it (the transfer) like two brothers, I felt that way. I told him that any decision he made would make me happy. We continued talking because it is a friendship that has remained.

“He is a boy with all the conditions to take on the world. He is a great player, he is going to continue growing, he will have downturns, which will help him learn a lot and continue growing.”
