Sporting CP are reportedly still to find a personal agreement to sign Sebastian Coates from Sunderland.

The defender, who has been on loan at the Portuguese club since January, can be signed for a mere €5m at the end of the season.

CapturarAccording to O Jogo, Sporting are sure they will use the buying option, but they need the player to accept their offer first.

Coates reportedly earns €2.8m gross per season. Sporting are currently paying €2.4m as Sunderland are responsible for the other part.

Sporting’s offer is to keep paying the €2.4m, but O Jogo claims that Coates wants to maintain his current salary.

It’s also mentioned that Coates has a progressive salary at Sunderland, which means that it will raise from €2.8m to €3.1m next season.

But what Sporting are offering are those €2.4m per season in a five-year deal, meaning that the player will have to give up on a lot of money to sign for them.

The Portuguese press insists that Coates’ wish is to stay at Sporting and sign the contract, but the negotiations should take a bit more time to be concluded.

Since arriving at Sporting, the Uruguayan international has become a very important player for the squad and hasn’t left the starting team for several months.
