Earlier today, we covered a report from Portugal saying Benfica are having a hard time convincing Ruben Dias over a contract extension.
It’s been claimed that the player is using interest from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City so he can double his salary at the club.
And the words in the media continue to help him with that, because now a former Benfica player has claimed that Dias has enough quality to play for the Red Devils.
Radio Renascença spoke to Paulo Madeira this Monday, and when talking about the contract renewals at the club, the former defender praised the Eagles for trying to hold Dias.
“I am convinced that at the moment Rúben Dias is very prepared to be able to play for a PSG, a Manchester United, a Real Madrid because he has such a great quality,” Madeira told Renascença (via Record).
“Benfica will be wary of an eventually stronger approach from these clubs. I see the renewal in a natural way. It can be difficult to hold a player of this level. If Benfica can grasp these pearls that have been emerging in recent times, it’s very good in sports terms. But higher numbers may appear and Benfica may have to give up some of these players. As a Benfiquista, I would like to have Ruben Days and Ferro for many more years.”
Ruben Dias is currently protected by a contract which runs until 2024 and has a release clause of €66m. The word in Portugal is that the club’s intention is to raise that amount to €88m.
