Leander Dendoncker’s failure to convince Unai Emery at Aston Villa saw him go out on loan since January 2024.

The Belgium international spent the first half of last year on loan at Napoli before Aston Villa let him return to Anderlecht on a season-long loan deal last summer. They also have an option to make his stay permanent.

Dendoncker hasn’t managed to fully convince this season and it’s not clear whether he’ll still be at Anderlecht next season.

Earlier this week, Anderlecht sporting director Olivier Renard stated they haven’t made a decision yet over exercising the purchase clause for the 28-year-old.

La Dernière Heure have a report on the Aston Villa owned player’s season so far and they also talk about his future at the end. The midfielder, who can also operate as a centre-back, is happy with his life in Brussels.

There’s a €7m buying option as part of the loan deal and this is too high for the Belgian club. Aston Villa would have to lower the price if they were to retain Dendoncker beyond this season.

Dendoncker’s contract at Villa Park expires in 2025 and therefore, La Dernière Heure state it would be ‘surprising if Aston Villa put obstacles’ to let him leave permanently in the summer.
