Bruno Guimarães moved from Lyon to Newcastle United in January 2022 and the Brazilian midfielder has impressed regularly for the Magpies.
Eddie Howe’s side have been keeping an eye on another Brazilian from the Ligue 1 club. On Friday, we covered claims from Brazil which stated Newcastle failed to sign Lyon’s Lucas Perri in the winter market.
It was also reported the English club could make a new attempt to sign the goalkeeper in the summer window.
Later that day, the stopper spoke at a press conference and Foot Mercato have relayed his comments.
Lyon took the 27-year-old from Brazilian side Botafogo in 2024 and he is their first-choice goalkeeper this season. Perri has kept nine clean sheets and conceded 34 goals from 28 games in all competitions.
The South American’s contract lasts until 2028 and amid the Newcastle links, he wants to continue at Lyon. The player states he is happy with his life at the French club and hopes to continue his journey with them.
“I’ve been here for a year. I learned a new language and lived in a new, very beautiful city. It’s an incredible place. I experienced very special moments. I hope this adventure will continue. I’m proud to be here and to play for this badge,” he said.
Foot Mercato state Perri’s comments are ‘enough to put an end’ to the Newcastle transfer links. For now, at least.
