Rangers had to settle for a draw with Hibernian last weekend as Rocky Bushiri starred against Philippe Clement’s side.
Hamza Igamane opened the scoring for Rangers in the fourth minute before he doubled the lead in the 19th minute. Bushiri assisted Martin Boyle’s first goal for Hibernian before the latter equalised on the hour mark.
Igamane restored Rangers’ lead in the 74th minute but it was cancelled out by the 25-year-old nine minutes later.
Walfoot have had a chat with the Hibs player to discuss his latest performance in the league, and he expressed his delight over getting a point against Rangers.
“Everyone knows the gap between the two Glasgow clubs and the rest of the league, so it’s great to achieve that, that’s for sure,” he said.
“Now, I don’t know if we’ll talk about a reference match, just a good match, but it’s true that the statistics followed and highlighted it, so that’s nice.”
Rangers are currently second in the table with 40 points, trailing league leaders Celtic by 16 points with a game in hand.
There had been some suggestions Philippe Clement’s job at Ibrox could be under threat, but Rangers started this year with a 3-0 win over Celtic at home.
Walfoot claim there’s ‘even more pressure’ on the Belgian after Rangers’ 3-3 draw against Hibernian and the DR Congo international agrees.
“For a few years, Celtic have dominated the league, that’s how it is… Rangers are trying to reduce the gap but it’s cycles,” Bushiri explains.
“The Old Firm victory calmed things down because it’s like us with Hearts of Midlothian: all that matters is beating them. But it’s true that Sunday’s match put the club back in trouble.”
Bushiri knows both Philippe Clement and Rangers’ Nicolas Raskin, but didn’t manage to speak to the latter two last weekend.
“Yes, I know Nicolas, we talk quite regularly, and I know coach Clement too, but there, after such a match, I was caught up in the celebrations, by the media, so I wasn’t really able to talk to them,” he added.
