Jérémy Doku will be one of the best players in the world thanks to the development he’ll enjoy at Manchester City.

That’s according to former Belgium international Paul Van Himst, who watched the player as a youngster and believes he has a bright future ahead of him.

Doku joined Manchester City in one of the more surprising moves of the summer transfer window, with the Blues paying €60m to get him from Rennes.

He arrived at the Etihad as something of a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who had departed for Saudi Arabia and left Pep Guardiola’s squad lacking in a more direct style winger.

The 21-year-old has quickly found himself in the first-team picture for Manchester City, featuring in 50% of the available minutes in the Premier League so far and bagging one goal in three games.

Given his age he is very much a player to be developed for the future, with many having predicted the Belgian to be a star in the years to come.

Van Himst certainly believes that will happen and thinks Manchester City will improve one particular weak point in his game.

“I have known him since he was young, because he played with my grandson at the U16 or U18 level. He is terribly fast. What is good for him is that he is an individualist,” he told RTBF.

“But now that he left for Manchester City, he will learn to play in a team. Because at City, if he plays two games and doesn’t give the ball much, the others won’t give him the ball either.

“In a year’s time I think he will be one of the best players in the world. He has so many qualities.”
